The 49ers picked someone no one expected to pick on the draft day mock drafts. They selected Mykel Williams, an EDGE from Georgia. And there were better players around in the pool when he was selected, so this pick is questionable.
He’s not worse than the Ricky Pearsall pick last year, but there was a good corner laying out there, and he wasn’t even picked last night! That guys name is my mock selection: CB Will Johnson from Michigan. The 49ers needed a corner after pretty much all of their corners left during free agency, and they instead went with defensive line. I mean it’s OK because some of the defensive line went too, like Mailek Collins and Javon Hargrave. The 49ers need a corner, and like I said before round one, “If this player is still available, the 49ers will take CB Will Johnson. The cornerback position is a need for the 49ers after the loss of Charvarius Ward, and Will Johnson is a good replacement. Although he missed a few weeks last college football season due to a toe injury, his talent is undeniable. If he’s taken before the 49ers pick, I’d go for a defensive lineman.”. Johnson was still on the table, and the 49ers didn’t get him. So, this pick was not a bad pick, but the 49ers should’ve considered that corner instead of straight up grabbing a defensive line.
