Since I heard the NHL All-Star Countries Tournament was good, I might as just well review it. The San Jose Sharks won’t be good for a while, so it’s something good to review.
Finland and Sweden didn’t compete well with the United States and Canada. The only San Jose Sharks to compete in the tournament were in one or both of these teams. I don’t follow hockey often so I didn’t know. Finland beat Sweden 4-3 in OT. The main event here in this NHL All-Star Tournament was USA-Canada.
The round-robin game was cinema. There were three fights in nine seconds because the game was played on Canadian soil and the Canadians booed our National Anthem! The States ended up winning this one at Montreal and got their spot in the championship game in TD Garden, which happened last night. Jake Guentzel netted two while Dylan Larkin netted one. Canada booked the rematch with their win in their final round-robin game.
The championship game was the most cinema. The game was a roller-coaster ride. It even went to overtime. In the end, hockey’s future GOAT Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers scored the winner for Canada. It hurts me because my homeland lost despite much political beef with Canada. I hope Edmonton wins the Stanley Cup soon. They should’ve won last summer. Florida just had to ruin the 3-0 comeback.
Canada still owns the United States in hockey. The states haven’t won a major hockey tournament since 1996. Canada beat the USA back in the 2010 Winter Olympics in the gold medal game in overtime too. History repeats itself. The good thing is that with the outcome of the tournament, the United States is now level with Canada in hockey. We can beat Canada in a major tournament final sooner or later. Hopefully, that happens in the 2026 Olympics.
